I'm pleased (and slightly stunned!) that I have been commissioned by the Quilters Guild to make one of the two quilts to celebrate York 800. York is having year-long celebrations to mark the fact that it is 800 years since King John gave York the charter, enabling it to govern itself.

I visited York at the beginning of May for a few days to get an overview of the city, do some touristy stuff and take lots of photos and do some drawings.

There is so much to see and do that it is going to be difficult to stay focussed and not go off at a weird tangent (though sometimes that can yield interesting results!)
An important part of the design process for me is thinking time. I had previously arranged to go walking on the Devon/Cornwall coastal path and this came just at the right time. Walking alone provides the perfect opportunity to get totally lost in your thoughts (whilst remembering not to fall off the path - those cliffs are 500 feet high in places!)
